Positive outlook for Minnesota’s wild rice pickers this summer

After ideal weather growing conditions in the spring and early summer, the Minnesota DNR says wild rice pickers can expect a good crop on many of the state’s lakes.
The season begins on Saturday, Aug. 15 and goes through Sept. 30. Individuals can harvest ripe wild rice from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Harvesting green, or unripe, wild rice is unlawful. On average, the state sells about 1,500 harvest licenses annually.
