MN Daily Update: Understanding the speedy cliff swallow

Cliff swallows build gourd-shaped mud nests beneath bridges, cliffs, and building eaves, often forming bustling colonies. Pairs reinforce their nests with thousands of mud pellets and line them with grass and feathers. Both parents incubate the eggs and feed the young. In late summer, large flocks gather before migrating to wintering grounds as far south as South America. Note the distinctive white spot on the species’ forehead, which makes them easy to identify.
