The Schuylkill River Water Trail has been designated Pennsylvania’s first – and so far only – National Water Trail by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Already a National Recreation Trail, the Schuylkill was given higher-level status on National Trails Day, June 6, becoming one of just 40 such waterways in the country. Criteria is based on exemplary recreational value for fishing, paddling and wildlife watching, public access, conservation and stewardship efforts, and community engagement.
