Pro Tip of the Week: For early summer bass, follow the slabs

When it comes to targeting bass, Kurt Erickson starts shallow in the spring, then follows the weed growth until its fully bloomed in the summer and does the reverse in the fall. (Contributed photo)

Once the crappies leave the shallows, the bass will come in to spawn. Largemouth will spawn all over the lake, but I go to my crappie spots first. The bass will be on beds or really close to them. I fish 5 feet or less and mostly in 1 foot of water. Wacky rigs are the ticket.
