New Winnebago rule allows Wisconsin anglers to keep more invasive gobies; and biologists ask for flexibility on ‘imperiled’ walleye lakes
Wisconsin’s Natural Resources Board (NRB) approved an emergency order allowing anglers to harvest more round gobies from Lake Winnebago at the board’s May 27 meeting.
Kari Lee-Zimmermann, fisheries regulations and policy specialist for the DNR, explained that the round goby is a non-native invasive fish that can displace native fish.
“They are not established in the Winnebago system, but they have been found,” Zimmermann said.
