The 2026 Minnesota Duck Summit carried the theme of hope through its March 27-28 gathering in Nicollet as Scott Glup, retired U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) biologist and event host, set the tone Friday, saying he wouldn’t be there if he didn’t believe there was hope for the future.
“We hope this is just the beginning,” he said.

Prairie chicken kill drops during Minnesota’s latest limited hunting season
The 2025 Minnesota prairie chicken harvest fell to one of its lowest levels since Minnesota reopened the season in 2003.
Hunters harvested 46 birds, and total harvest after accounting for non-respondents was estimated at 56 in 2025, a 37% drop from the previous year. The statewide quota was 125 birds across 11 northwestern Minnesota permit areas, allocated through a lottery that drew more than 400 applicants.

From central Minnesota and locations to its south and west, ice fishing options no longer exist. While you could still see some ice on lakes around the St. Cloud and Twin Cities areas early this week, they’re just fading remnants of another winter fishing season gone by.
