Kentucky project aimed at bigger bass makes key finding

A project in Kentucky has caught the attention of bass fishermen in Illinois and other states. A recent progress report announced that researchers have found the genetic keys to unlocking the potential for bigger largemouth bass. (Photo provided)

Bigger bass that are more aggressive in chasing an angler’s plastic worm from one end of the lake to the other?
Roughly 96.2% of Illinois fishermen responded, “yes, sign me up!”
That, of course refers to a non-scientific poll about an intensely-scientific endeavor being taken on by biologists in a neighboring state. News flash: Kentucky researchers have reported the finding of genetic markers associated with “enhanced size in native largemouth bass.”
