Frigid weather aiding formation of ice for eager anglers across Minnesota

After a mostly mild month of November in Minnesota, December arrived with a frigid and long-lasting blast – just in time for people of the outdoors to wrap up hunting efforts and turn their attention to fishy endeavors. (Photo by Craig Bihrle)

For Minnesota ice anglers itching to wet their newest lures, fire up their augers, or otherwise test technology recently added to their arsenals, the time is near. That’s according to an array of bait shop and resort personnel across the entirety of the state.
In fact, ice thickness on Upper Red Lake in far northern Minnesota earlier this week nearly mirrored that of lakes around Fairmont, some 350 miles due south.
