Broken down on the water? Erie Canal towing a continuing and traditional service

When the Erie Canal was created 200 years ago, canal boats filled with commercial goods and passengers were pulled down a tow path by a team of mules. This became a common occurrence along the 363-mile-long canal system.
Two centuries later, the canal system changed through the years from a commercial catalyst to an important recreational waterway. While many of the boats include personal watercraft like canoes and kayaks, there are still a significant number of power boats that utilize this unique transportation system – and that means there’s a chance of having a motor (or boat) issue.
