Alliance promotes outdoors activities in Wisconsin’s Oconto County

A coalition of sportsmen’s groups in Oconto County, Wis., is working together toward a common goal of introducing kids to the outdoors in a county that provides plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Gary Lemmen, of Oconto Falls, is president of the Oconto County Sportsman’s Alliance, a group that includes: the Breed, Crooked Lake, Kelly Lake, Klondike, Oconto, Morgan, Suring, Underhill, and White Potato Lake sportsmen’s clubs; the Northeast Wisconsin Deer Management Alliance; Northern Lakes Archers; Oconto Bowmen; and Oconto River Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Squirrel hunting is a stepping stone to outdoors

Squirrel season is here in Ohio and many other states, and frankly my son and I couldn’t be more excited.

Stonecats are the best river bass bait out there

Legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, tragically, is dead, but I know how I’m going to honor his memory this fall.
I’ll press in my earbuds, put on “Ironman,” or some other Black Sabbath standard, and go catch some Susquehanna River smallmouths using lively stonecatties for bait, or fly-fishing using a stonecat streamer pattern. I realize the whole “getting stoned for smallmouth” theme is crass and juvenile, but I can’t seem to shake it. And stonecats are flatout the best river bass bait out there.
