Wisconsin NRB OKs fish rule changes, including April trout opener

The approved statewide regulations include changing the statewide general opening for trout and salmon on inland streams, springs and spring ponds to the first Saturday in April, at 5. a.m., adding one month to the trout fishing season. (Stock photo)

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB), at its June 25 meeting, approved changes in several fishing regulations, including opening the inland trout fishing season in April, one month earlier than the May fishing opener.
The regulations had been presented to the public at the 2025 spring fish and game public hearings in each county, plus at an additional hearing on May 22.
