Lac Vieux Desert’s history extends beyond good fishing in Vilas County, Wis.

Most people know Lac Vieux Desert stands as the headwaters of the 430-mile Wisconsin River. What most people may not know is that this area was being explored in the 1600s. The first map of this lake was published in Paris in 1718, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.
