The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is changing the way it manages the walleye fishery in the St. Lawrence River, but not everyone is happy with the overhaul.
For the last 20 years, DEC fisheries, along with volunteers from two local clubs, led the walleye stocking effort in St. Lawrence County. The St. Lawrence Valley Sportsman Club, based in Ogdensburg, was primarily responsible for overseeing the process from fertilized eggs to when they hatched until they were fry.
