Wind, smoke affect fishing-opener as Minnesota anglers see mixed success

Anglers flocked to various locations across Minnesota last weekend as the inland waters fishing season kicked off. Gov. Tim Walz headed to Lake City for the annual 2024 Governor’s Fishing Opener, joined by Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen, and Minnesota U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Unlike last year’s opener in some areas, which saw rain and thunderstorms, last weekend’s weather featured wind and smoke, affecting fishing success intermittently.
