Hellbender project a good indicator of water quality in Ohio
Students at Indian Creek High School in Ohio are learning about the importance of water quality and other environmental concerns by raising and studying rare and endangered stream creatures called eastern hellbender salamanders.
The school recently received a three-year-old eastern hellbender named “Chief” that was born at the Columbus Zoo. Chief is an “ambassador” animal and was deemed not suitable for release into the wild because of a tail injury.
