Wild birds spread avian flu to dairy cows in Pennsylvania

With nine states to date reporting dairy herds affected by a syndrome thought to be caused by a highly pathogenic strain of avian influenza, animal health experts and extension educators in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences have mobilized to provide dairy producers with information that can help protect their herds from infection.

A quick chat with Scott Kovarovics of the Izaak Walton League

Scott Kovarovics, executive director of the Izaak Walton League of America, has been with the conservation organization for nearly two decades.
Kovarovics, 54, came to the IWLA in 2008 in the position of conservation director, leading public policy and advocacy work. He was named executive director of the organization in 2013. His prior experience before joining Izaak Walton focused on public land management and natural resource issues.

Girls ages 12-18 invited to free learn-to-fly-fish event June 15-16 in Pennsylvania

Girls who want to learn to fly-fish, or hone their skills, will have an opportunity at a two-day Reel Girls trout camp in Port Matilda, Centre County, Pa., June 15-16.
Funded by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation, the event is free to girls 12 to 18, and includes lodging and meals. Volunteer mentors also are being recruited.
