Here’s how to catch Illinois’ saugeyes in the fall

The bigger saugeyes of the fall require different tactics than they do in the spring and summer. Stay focused to find the larger fish. (Photos by John Tertuliani)
A seasonal mystery it is, saugeyes in the fall. Finding them can be as bad or worse than summer saugeyes, a most difficult feat for me. Perseverance to stay with it can be tough; it can take all day. Other species hitting the line with ease make for a tempting distraction. I am learning the quirks needed for success in the fall, some obvious, some not so much. The learning never ends, probably why it is so much fun.
