While fall is a time for youth hunting activities, a number of sporting groups in New York are also reflecting on youth fishing events they held during the warm weather months.
At the Waterville Fish & Game Club, in Sangerfield in Oneida County, the club held it’s annual derby on July 30. Organizers feel it is one of the state’s oldest kids fishing events. It took place on Chitning Pond where 54 young anglers registered to fish. The top fish and top prize, with a 14 1⁄4-inch bullhead, went to Merritt Staring.
