In late April, it seemed as if spring weather was never going to arrive in my area, but there were positive signs. The minute ice began to leave lakes and ponds, water birds started flying in, right on schedule. Rich Carlson caught an elegant pair of red-breasted mergansers enjoying an early spring day.
