On May 4, during one of the first pleasant mornings in recent weeks, a multitude of Ohio DNR (ODNR) and Division of Wildlife (DOW) personnel, U.S. Fish and Wildlife staff, local, federal and state legislators, agency heads, tourism leaders, members of the media, and many other well-wishers celebrated the re-opening of the former Magee Marsh Sportsmen’s Migratory Bird Center.

Pennsylvania citizens pack Department of Environmental Protection hearing for Huntingdon wetland

More than 75 people attended the May 3 hearing that could decide the fate of the popular Old Crow Wetland in Huntingdon County.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection held the hearing to gather testimony regarding the discharge of stormwater from a proposed Rutter’s truck stop/gas station/convenience store on the outskirts of Huntingdon.

Southern Iowa lakes experience panfish kills due to spawning stress

Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) fisheries biologists have investigated recent reports of dead bluegill and crappie in southern Iowa lakes.
These natural fish kills are a common occurrence at a number of lakes each spring during spawning season. There is little danger to the overall population of bluegill or crappie. Iowa lakes can support thousands of panfish per acre of water.
