Gadget-free fishing and pulling in northern pike

I have several friends who are diehard fishermen, knowledgeable to the point where catching fish is usually an inevitability for them.
Their rigs sport all the latest electronics and are jammed with myriad rod/reel combos and tackle of every sort. Pulling finicky walleyes from heavily fished or marginal waters can be rote for these guys. Not me.
