Does Evolution favor the lazy and sluggish?

So maybe Baloo the Bear in Walt Disney’s “The Jungle Book” was onto something when he said, “You’re working too hard.” Evidence suggests that wildlife typically exert no more effort than necessary to obtain food, water, and shelter. Emerging data suggests that for some species, laziness can be a beneficial evolutionary strategy. (Stock photo)

Most of us have been told that evolution “favors the survival of the fittest” and also that the “fittest” are the biggest, strongest, fastest, smartest, or most colorful.
Now, a new line of investigation has emerged suggesting that for some species, the “fittest” individuals are the slowest or “laziest” members of the population.
