Have silver carp hit critical mass in Minnesota waters of the Mississippi?

A DNR-contracted commercial fishing business earlier this year caught 30 silver carp on Pool 6 of the Mississippi River, which lies between Winona, Minn. and La Crosse, Wis. It represented the largest catch of the exotic fish this far upstream on the Mississippi. (Minnesota DNR photo)
Members of Minnesota's Senate Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee last week debated spending millions on an Asian carp barrier on the Mississippi River, just days after the DNR reported the highest state capture to date of the invasive fish. The committee meeting to discuss Senate File 2037, authored by Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, March 23, offered many a chance to air grievances about what hasn’t been done to stop the advance of the destructive fish.
