Something unusual is set to take place on the Lower Saginaw River on March 16: walleye fishing.
Angling for walleyes there will continue as if it were still March 15, until this year the last day of the walleye fishing season.
The closure was meant to provide spawning-minded Saginaw Bay system walleyes about six weeks of relief from fishing pressure. But the DNR believes walleyes moving through the Lower Saginaw don’t need it.
