Minnesota DNR, Red Lake Nation renew Upper and Lower Red Lake fishery management agreement 

The new MOU closely parallels previous 1999-2019 agreements that facilitated restoration of high-quality walleye fishing to Minnesota’s largest inland body of water. The agreement states that each entity will support the Red Lake Fisheries Technical Committee, a joint panel of experts that recommends policies and practices to maintain a healthy fishery.

Governor’s Christmas tree harvested in state forest [video]

Half a million Christmas trees are harvested each holiday season from private tree farms in Minnesota, contributing about $30 million to the state’s economy. For each tree harvested, one to three trees are planted. Real Christmas trees store carbon during their lifespan, and they can be chipped and used for mulch when the season is over, making them an environmentally friendly choice.

Number of deer registered during Wisconsin gun hunt tumbles

Overall, preliminary figures show that 160,769 deer were registered during the nine-day gun deer hunt, compared to 213,972 in 2018. Of the deer harvested in the 2019 nine-day season, 75,236 were antlered compared to 105,315 in 2018. The nine-day hunt also provided hunters with 85,533 antlerless deer, a decrease from 108,657 in 2018.
