Dogs have their days at Game Fair (videos)

It’s safe to say that there’s something for all to enjoy at the 2017 Game Fair.

For attendees with two legs and with four.

Maybe more so for the latter.

Game Fair kicked off Friday, Aug. 11. The two-weekend event will run Friday through Sunday, Aug. 13, and Friday, Aug. 18 through Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Armstrong Ranch Kennels near Anoka.

The event features an array of exhibitors and seminars, as well as an assortment of hands-on activities for kids and adults alike. If it’s game-oriented at all, it’s here, along with things that aren’t necessarily about wild game. Lots of sights to see; food, too – very much like a mini Minnesota State Fair.

But with dogs, too. Lots of dogs.

Our four-legged friends are, after all, welcomed with open arms here. And there may be more for them in this rural setting than for their human sidekicks. There are countless contests, from dock jumping to retrieving. And dogs needn’t be hunting-type dogs – some brought their non-hunting breeds to the massive grounds here just outside the metro area, families taking the dog for a walk like they were, well, taking the dog for a walk.

Yup, Game Fair has gone to the dogs. And, by the looks of the crowd opening day, that’s a big part of the success of The Great Minnesota Game Get-together.
