Trail cam images: A cougar in the south metro?
LAKEVILLE, Minn. — Images taken from a trail cam in northwest Lakeville in the southern metro area of the Twin Cities could be that of a cougar.
The images were taken May 13 and then again May 24, and show what looks to be a large cat making its way across the property. According to reports, a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wildlife specialist said the animal in question could be a cougar, but it’s still unknown for sure.
If it is indeed a cougar, the sighting, while rare in the metro, would hardly be a first. In fact, in the fall of 2009, there were three reported cougar sightings. Last November in northern Minnesota, there was a report of two cougars fighting, but after visiting the site and examining photos and other evidence, the DNR said it believed the animals instead were more common bobcats.
