Ohio Parks, Watercraft updates agency’s logo

Visitors to this year’s Ohio State Fair, as well as state park and boating events, will see something new.

Employees of the Ohio DNR’s combined parks and watercraft division (that also includes the old nature preserves division) will be sporting apparel with a new logo.

The recently introduced logo features trees and rolling hills at the top and a boat bounding through waves at the bottom. It reflects the merged nature of the new division.

The DNR’s communications department and Shaun Casbarro began work on a new logo last fall. A handful of designs were proposed. Parks and watercraft staff made the final selection.

It will turn up this summer on shirts, brochures, vehicles, letterheads, and law enforcement uniforms. Customers will eventually see it on signage at all park and watercraft facilities.

Chief Mike Bailey said the new design reflects the mission statements of both former divisions.

“Our goal was to convey to customers the very core of our mission in our newly created division,” he said. “It’s been very well received.”

It is also a symbol of the operational efficiency the DNR now displays, Bailey said.

Whether or not all employees of the three formerly independent divisions like the idea of brotherhood that it represents remains to be seen.

Regardless, it’s a sign of the times.
