Happy 2017. I’m excited to begin the new year as Illinois Outdoor News’ newest blogger.
For this first blog post, I’ll introduce myself, then it will be time to talk about winter fishing in Illinois — both on the ice and on the state’s open water.
I grew up in southern Illinois, in Williamson County, not far from Crab Orchard and the Shawnee National Forest. My family still owns hunting property and a farm at the bottom of the state and I spend a lot of time hunting deer, turkeys and ducks. I spend even more time (and money) fishing for bass and crappies.
My home is now outside of Decatur in central Illinois. This offers me plenty of opportunity to fish Lake Shelbyville and other smaller waters in the middle of the state.
What will I be posting about? Just about anything that matters to Illinois hunters and anglers.
I look forward to it and I hope you check back often.
