Finger Lakes/Southern Tier Fishing Report – February 19th, 2016

Cayuga Lake: No safe ice to report. Anglers trolling near the surface down to about 50 feet were getting some Atlantic salmon around Taughannock Point. Lake trout were being found in about 150 foot of water.

Seneca Lake: Yellow perch fishing can often be good this time of year on Seneca, but so far no reports of how anglers have been doing.

Canandaigua Lake: No report.

Skaneateles Lake: The state launch is closed for the season. No safe ice to report at last check.

Susquehanna, Chenango, Tioughnioga and Unadilla rivers: Rivers are up from the recent rain and snow melt. When rivers go down try for walleye in the deeper holes with jigs tipped with minnows.

Whitney Point Reservoir: A warmup earlier this month forced the cancellation again of the annual New York State Crappie Derby. But conditions have now improved a bit on the heels of some bitter cold weather recently. Keep an eye on the popular iceshanty.com message board for updates on ice conditions.
