Outdoor News and Clam Outdoors™ name Osakis lad as October 2015 Youth of Month

He’s a 13-year-old who proudly serves as the youngest member of his high school clay target league, and after bagging a 27-pound turkey near his rural Osakis, Minn., home, he also owns the bragging rights for the largest turkey shot within his family of sporting enthusiasts. These were just a couple of the reasons that Luke Staloch had the honor of being selected as the October Outdoor Youth of the Month in a program that Outdoor News Publications and Clam Outdoors offer readers and the general public.

Staff from Outdoor News and Clam selected Staloch after receiving nominations from readers identifying Minnesota students in grades 7-12 who demonstrate leadership or excellence in the outdoor pursuits including: habitat restoration efforts, archery, the shooting sports, or mentored fishing and hunting programs. The co-sponsors chose Breanna Theodore, of Hibbing, as the September Outdoor Youth of the Month, and are seeking nominations for the November 2015 recipient.

Read a biography of Staloch’s experiences as a 7th-grader shooting on the Osakis High School Clay Target League and the life benefits he’s realized afield during the 2015 waterfowl season, in the Oct. 30 issue of Minnesota Outdoor News (Page 20).

Nick Chiodo, marketing director for Clam Outdoors, believes the partnership with Outdoor News brings much-needed attention to the excellent programs supporting youth in actively participating in the outdoor lifestyle. “By recognizing both the organizations and the individual youth through the Outdoor Youth of the Month program, Clam Outdoors feels we are investing in the legacy of our outdoor heritage,” Chiodo said. The newly formed Osakis High School trap team that Staloch represents with 12 other youth will receive a $250 award from Clam.

Additionally, as the youth selected to receive the Outdoor Youth of the Month, Staloch will receive a $250 cash award and $250 in merchandise from Clam Outdoors, in addition to a plaque, and a subscription to Outdoor News.
