Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – June 5th, 2015

East Jordan Area
Lake herring are being caught in the Pine River channel. Blade baits and small Cleos are producing good results. Walleye fishing has been fair in the south arm of Lake Charlevoix in 20 feet of water, 10 feet down. Spinners and jerkbaits have both produced good results. Medusa Creek is producing a good steelhead bite, and a few have been caught in the Jordan and Boyne rivers, too. Panfish are keeping anglers busy in 15 feet of water on the Bellaire Chain of Lakes.

Cadillac Area
Crappie fishing has been very good on Lake Cadillac. They have moved into the shallows, and specs up to 14 inches have been caught. Walleye fishing has been spotty. Largemouth bass and “a ton of pike” have been caught on Lake Mitchell. The late turkey season was very slow. Gobblers were not responding to the call.

Mio Area
Sulfers and isos are hatching on the AuSable River, and trout anglers report good action. Brown, brook, and rainbow trout are all hitting. Brown drakes should start hatching any day. The late turkey season was slow in this area.

Hubbard Lake Area
Fishing pressure has been light on Hubbard Lake. Fair numbers of walleyes have been caught, and smallmouth bass fishing has been good, too.

Oscoda Area
Walleye fishing has picked up in the lower stretch of the AuSable River. Crawlers and crankbaits are both producing good results. Anglers report a good walleye bite off the pier heads on Lake Huron, too. Lake trout action has been very good in Lake Huron. Anglers trolling spoons right on bottom in 50 to 60 feet of water report a good bite. Bluegills and sunfish have moved into the shallows on Foot Dam Pond and Cook Dam Pond. Reports indicate that the late turkey season was slow.
