Heading into the final stretch of the spring turkey season, it appears hunters will easily surpass last year's statewide harvest totals.
The final week of the south zone season begins Thursday, while the fourth week of the five-week season opens tomorrow in the north zone.
As of today, hunters had taken a total of 11,722 birds this spring. The total for the spring 2014 season was 13,519. Barring a weather disaster, north and south zone hunters should have little trouble hitting the mark, then blasting past it.
So far, birds appear healthy and active. Hunters who drew late-season permits expect to hit their blinds at a perfect time.
Stay tuned for continued updates on the season's harvest.
