Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – April 24th, 2015

Traverse City Area

Ice has moved out and fishing was just getting started last week. Bass anglers were taking advantage of the new catch-and-immediate-release bass season and catching good numbers of fish on Duck and Green lakes. Atlantic salmon have been caught on Torch Lake where anglers were long-lining with crankbaits and spoons along the drop-offs. Toms are strutting. The spring season should be fair.

Cadillac Area

Boat anglers have been slow to get out on lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. A few crappies have been caught off the city dock on Lake Cadillac. Turkey season should be fair. Bird numbers are down in the area.

Houghton Lake Area

There was open water on Houghton Lake last week, but not much fishing pressure. Most anglers were waiting for the lake to warm up just a little. A few panfish have been caught in the cuts and canals. Spring turkey hunting should be fair.

Oscoda Area

Anglers trolling and casting body baits on Lake Huron report catching decent numbers of Atlantic salmon, steelhead, and walleyes from boats and off the pier. Low-light periods in the mornings and evenings seemed to produce the best results. Toms are strutting. Turkey season should be decent.
