Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – March 13th, 2015

East Jordan Area

Fishing has been slow in Charlevoix County with frigid weather keeping pressure to a minimum. Walleyes, pike, and lake herring are hitting on Lake Charlevoix, but perch fishing has been slow. Decent panfish action has been reported by anglers on the Bellaire Chain of Lakes. Whitefish have been caught on Torch Lake with the best action coming at midday. Good numbers of Atlantic salmon also have been caught anywhere from 5 to 25 feet under the ice. There was up to 2 feet of snow on the ground last week. Coyote hunting has been good.

Traverse City Area

Lake herring up to 3 pounds are hitting spoons fished in 110 feet of water in East Grand Traverse Bay. Look for suspended fish on your sonar. On West Grand Traverse Bay, anglers report catching lake trout off Lee Point in 150 to 170 feet of water. There is up to 3 feet of ice on inland lakes and fishing pressure there has been slow. Coyote hunting has been fair.

Cadillac Area

Pike fishing has been good on both Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell, but a lot of them have been small. Anglers report catching good numbers of “nice-sized” crappies and small perch on Lake Cadillac. A few walleyes have been caught, too. Coyote hunting has been pretty good. There was about 2 feet of snow in the woods last week.

Grayling Area

A few pike have been caught on Lake Margrethe. Most anglers are using tip-ups and minnows. Walleye fishing has been fair. Panfish action has been decent on River Lake and Frog Lake, and light numbers of crappies have been caught on Manistee Lake. Rabbit hunting has been pretty good and coyote hunters report good success, too. There was about 2 feet of snow in the woods last week.

Onaway Area

Pike fishing has been good on Black Lake, and a few anglers report a fair walleye bite, too. Panfish anglers report good success on some of the smaller lakes in the area. Coyote hunting has slowed a little. There was about a foot of snow on the ground last week.

Hale Area

Pike and panfish are hitting on most of the inland lakes in Iosco County including Hardwood, Long, Loon, and Londo. Several very nice crappies have been caught on Hardwood. Walleye anglers report a good bite on Long Lake. There was about 8 inches of snow on the ground last week. Cold, windy weather has kept coyote hunters indoors.
