Saginaw Bay Area
Walleye fishing continues to be good on Lake Huron’s Saginaw Bay. Anglers report catching good numbers of ‘eyes in 18 to 26 feet of water all the way up to AuGres. Schools are starting to gather near river mouths, and anglers are dialing in. Perch fishing has been slow. A few fish have been caught in 3 to 6 feet of water, but anglers are having to sort through their catch to find the keepers. Predator hunting has been good.

There is a lot of shelf ice on the Pere Marquette River, but a couple steelhead anglers found open water last week near Sulak Landing and reported fair success. Bluegills are hitting on Idlewild, crappies are biting on Idlewild and Cecilia, and some decent perch have been caught on Big Bass Lake. Pike fishing has been good on Big Star and Idlewild, but most on Idlewild have been hammer handles. There was about 18 inches of snow on the ground last week. Hunting pressure has been light.

Fishing has been slow and fishing pressure light on inland lakes around Ludington. Bluegill anglers report a decent bite on wax worms and spikes fished in 22 to 25 feet of water on Hamlin Lake. Rivers are frozen, and fishing has stalled. There was still up to 3 feet of snow on the ground last week and hunting pressure has been very light. There are a ton of coyotes in the area.

Lake trout and whitefish are hitting minnows fished in front of the breakwall on Lake Huron. A few pike have been caught on tip-ups in the harbor, and jiggers report catching some decent-sized perch, just not a lot of them. A few suckers already are being caught through the ice on the Pigeon River. There was about 8 inches of snow on the ground last week. Coyote hunting has been good. Breeding season is winding down.

Fishing pressure has been light around Port Huron. Decent numbers of walleyes and a few perch have been caught in Lake Huron’s Lexington Harbor. Occasionally, a brown trout will come through the ice. There was about 2 feet of snow on the ground last week, and hunting pressure has been light. There are a lot of coyotes in the area.

Fishing pressure has been light in Tuscola County. A few panfish have been caught on Murphy Lake and the gravel pit lakes, but overall the action has been slow. Coyote hunting pressure has been light, but there are “way too many” ‘yotes in the area.
