Southwest Pennsylvania Fishing Report – February 27th, 2015

North Park Lake (Allegheny County) — This small stocked-trout fishery was yielding nice catches to ice anglers through mid-February.

Raccoon Lake (Beaver County) — Ice anglers were catching bluegills and crappies, mostly in small sizes, by jigging maggots and waxworms. A few anglers caught trout, with gold-colored spoons tipped with a waxworm productive.

Monongahela River (Washington, Greene counties) — As conditions allowed, walleyes and saugers were reported on live minnows and soft plastic swimbaits near the outfalls and locks and dams.

Pennsylvania Game Commission State Game Land 223 ponds (Greene County) — Crappies, bluegills and sunfish were reported in recent weeks at this and other area ponds.

Laurel Hill Lake (Somerset County) — In early February, bluegills and rainbow trout were hitting through the ice on jigs tipped with waxworms and on spoons.

Lake Somerset (Somerset County) — Crappies, nice-size channel catfish, yellow perch, largemouth bass and a few keeper-size walleyes were reported by ice anglers through early February.

High Point Lake (Somerset County) — This impounded high atop a mountain was yielding northern pike, including a 33-incher and a 40-incher, chain pickerel, yellow perch, largemouth bass and a few crappies.

Youghiogheny River (Somerset County) — As conditions allowed, the tailrace was yielding trout up to 17 inches on lures and live bait.

Cranberry Glade Lake (Somerset County) — Northern pike up to 30 inches were reported in early February, along with bass in mixed sizes, although the bites were inconsistent.

Green Lick Dam (Westmoreland County) — Largemouth bass up to 20-plus inches were reported on tip-ups with 4- to 6-inch shiners by ice anglers in early February.

Yellow Creek Lake (Armstrong County) — Ice anglers in early February were catching keeper-size northern pike and some nice bass.

Glendale Lake (Cambria County) — Yellow perch, northern pike, including a 36-incher, and several small bass were being iced through mid-February.

Lake Rowena, Duman Lake (Cambria County) — Brown trout were reported at both fisheries, and Duman also was yielding pickerel.
