Metro Area Fishing Report – December 12th, 2014


Crappies and a few walleyes can be had in the evenings on Lake Minnetonka in Carson’s Bay over 19 feet or Black Lake and Seton Lake in 10 feet. Long Lake and Medicine Lake also are giving up crappies and sunfish in 19 feet, while Medicine Lake is producing northern pike on sucker minnows in 15 feet.

Walleyes are hitting in 16 to 18 feet as are panfish in 12 to 15 feet on White Bear Lake. On Lake Jane, pike are biting in 10 to 14 feet and you’ll find crappies in slightly deeper water. Look for crappies and sauger between Hudson and Stillwater on the St. Croix River. Demontreville Lake is producing pike and sunfish in 12 to 14 feet and Mud Lake is giving up northern pike on tip-ups and suckers in 12 to 15 feet.

Look to Cedar Lake for crappies and sunfish in 12 feet and Red Rock Lake for sunfish in 12 to 14 feet. Tip-ups and sucker minnows are producing northern pike at Lake Auburn in 10 feet.

Northern pike are being caught in Waconia Bay and Wagener’s Bay over 11 to 13 feet with tip-ups and sucker minnows. There’s some evening walleye action in Waconia Bay in 12 to 14 feet or in 15 to 18 feet between the two marinas. Look for crappies and sunfish in Waconia Bay and on Pillsbury Reef in 11 to 14 feet.

A few walleyes are biting in 18 to 26 feet on lakes Sylvia, Granite, Pleasant, Cedar, and Clearwater. Look for suspended crappies over 20 to 30 feet on Lake John or over 25 to 40 feet on Clearwater and Pleasant. A few sunfish can be had in 8 to 14 feet on John and Lake Marie.

Panfish, northern pike, and walleyes are hitting in the 6- to 12-foot weeds out from the hospital on South Lindstrom Lake. Work the Nelson’s Island area of North Center Lake in 10 to 14 feet for crappies and an occasional walleye. The channel between Chisago Lake and South Lindstrom continues to give up bluegills, while crappies can be had off Holt’s Point in 14 to 16 feet or Needle Point in 7 to 10 feet on South Center Lake.

Crappies have started hitting on Collinwood Lake during the middle of the day and Little Eagle Lake is producing crappies and sunfish just off the weedlines. On Buffalo Lake, crappies and walleyes are hitting during the morning hours out from the courthouse. Sunfish, crappies, northern pike, and a few walleyes can be had on Beebe Lake in 8 to 12 feet. Panfish action also has been strong on Burtrum Lake not far off shore and Pelican Lake is worth hitting for sunfish and crappies in 3 feet.
