Northern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – November 21st, 2014

East Jordan Area
Archery deer season slowed a little near the end but  bucks are on the move and the firearms season should be good. There was about 4 inches of snow heading into opening weekend. Waterfowl hunting has been good and flight ducks are moving through. Steelhead fishing has been good on the Bear and Elk rivers and a few have been caught in the Jordan. Spawn and flies have both produced good results.

Kalkaska Area
The archery deer season was pretty good in Kalkaska County and the firearms season should be good, too. The rut is on. Waterfowl hunting has been very good and flight ducks are moving through. Fishing pressure has been light on most of the lakes in the area.

Cadillac Area
The archery deer season was pretty good in Wexford County and the firearms deer season should be good, too. The rut is on. There was a couple inches of snow on the ground last week. Waterfowl hunting has been good on Lake Mitchell. Walleye fishing has been good in the canal between the lakes. Crankbaits fished at night have been the hot ticket.

Higgins Lake Area
Archery deer hunting was fair in Roscommon County despite wet, windy weather most of the season. Deer numbers are down in the area but bucks are on the move and the rut is on. There was no snow on the ground last week headed into the firearms season. Grouse hunting was pretty good. Fishing pressure has been very light on Higgins Lake.

Hubbard Lake Area
Archery deer season was slow this year in Alcona County. Deer numbers are down and hunting pressure has been light. There was a dusting of snow on the ground last week heading into the firearms deer season. The rut in on. Waterfowlers report some flight ducks starting to arrive. Fishing pressure has been very light on Hubbard Lake.

Oscoda Area
Archery deer season was a good one this year and hunters were eager for the firearms deer season to get started. The rut is on. There was a dusting of snow on the ground last week. Waterfowl hunting has been pretty good and flight ducks are moving through. Whitefish are hitting wax worms fished off the pier heads on Lake Michigan. Walleye fishing has been good in the lower stretch of the AuSable River with nightcrawlers and crankbaits.
