DULUTH AREA
Some people starting walking on the small lakes with 3 to 4 inches of ice reported. The big lakes still had some open water early this week, but the forecast looks favorable for improving ice conditions. The second weekend of deer hunting produced a fair number of deer (not as many as opening weekend), including a handful of decent bucks.

GRAND MARAIS AREA
Ice conditions are in fine shape with the smaller lakes carrying 3 to 5 inches and a few people have started to walk out. Deer hunting continues to be slow and most hunters report not even hearing any shots.

HIBBING/CHISHOLM AREA
The lakes are ice-covered with up to 4 inches reported on select lakes. A few people have started walking out, but there hasn’t been a lot of fishing activity. Deer hunting reports continued to be slow during the second weekend with most groups seeing more antlerless deer than bucks.

MORA AREA
All lakes are ice-covered and anglers are finding as much as 4 to 5 inches on certain lakes. They aren’t walking out far, but some panfish are being caught on the shoreline breaks of Mud Lake and Fish Lake. The second weekend of deer hunting was slow with fewer people taking part than most years.

A few people have started to walk out on the small ponds where 4 inches of ice is reported. Most small lakes are now ice-covered, while the bigger lakes and pits remain open.
