ALEXANDRIA AREA
The local deer harvest seemed down from opening weekend compared to last year. Muskie anglers continue to float big sucker minnows on Lake Miltona and Lobster Lake with some success, although 6 inches of snow has made it difficult to get on most lakes. Duck numbers have improved with more northern birds moving through.

BATTLE LAKE
With 6 to 8 inches of new snow, open water fishing options have ended. There is skim ice forming and with some calm, cold weather it won’t take long for most small lakes to cap with ice. Deer hunting reports weren’t the best from opening weekend with 65 animals registered and most hunters indicating that they didn’t see many deer.

DETROIT LAKES
A few muskie anglers have continued to fish with only a dusting of snow hitting this area, but most boats have been put away. Deer hunting reports have been very mixed with some groups seeing and shooting numbers of deer and others indicating that they saw very few throughout opening weekend.

PERHAM AREA
There were quite a few nice bucks shot opening weekend and overall, most groups reported seeing plenty of deer. There’s only a couple inches of snow on the ground and with cold weather expected to arrive this week, ice fishing on some bays or small lakes could be an option soon.
