Youth fishing club has another successful season
The 28 members of the Cincinnati Youth Bass Club wrapped up another successful season of fishing last month.
Club advisor Angela Poling now has a two-year waiting list of kids ages 11 to 18 wanting to join her very active group. However, she noted other youth fishing clubs in Ohio are looking for members.
"It helps if they have (access to a) boat because it's difficult finding volunteer (boat operators) these days," Poling said.
Thirteen-year-old Heinz Kalkhoff was named the CYBC angler of the year and most improved angler.
"That has never happened. It was a huge surprise for him," Poling said.
Members Alex Redwine and Harbor Lovin fished the Student Angler Fishing (SAF) high school circuit. They took third place in the Ohio tournament at Alum Creek State Park and second place at the regional tournament on Lake Erie.
"Next year, I'm sure they will take first place and move on to the national level," Poling said.
Winning on the national level comes with scholarship funds, she noted.
