Outdoor News and Hank Shaw Partner on “Taste of the Wild” Cooking Feature
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 17, 2014
(Plymouth, Minn.) — Outdoor News, Inc., publisher of locally written fishing and hunting outdoor newspapers in seven Great Lake states, has partnered with award-winning chef and author, Hank Shaw, in publishing a special cooking feature on an expanded Outdoor News “Taste of the Wild” page.
Shaw, who writes a James Beard award-winning food blog titled: “Hunter, Angler Gardener, Cook” has become a household name among hunters and locavores. In this exclusive Outdoor News feature, he shares tips on rendering your own duck and goose fat, as well as preparing duck and goose legs.
Shaw suggested that many hunters often believe there’s little to no meat on waterfowl legs, but says that’s simply not true. “In some states you must keep the legs of large ducks and all geese or face charges of wanton waste. But it shouldn’t take a law to make you want to eat the drumsticks of your waterfowl. They’re incredibly rich in flavor, and aren’t hard to cook,” Shaw said.
Drawing on the expertise that Shaw infused into his cookbook, “Duck, Duck, Goose: Recipes and Techniques for Cooking Ducks and Geese,” readers will find the instructions and tips useful towards maximizing the often overlooked legs of their waterfowl harvest.
You can read the “Taste of the Wild” story featuring Shaw’s recipe and in September 2014 editions of Outdoor News publications in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio.
