Southeast Minnesota Fishing Report – August 22nd, 2014


The 8- to 10- foot weeds on French Lake are giving up sunfish. Crappies and sunfish are hitting on Lake Mazaska in 12 to 14 feet. Hit the channel on Kelley Dudley Lake with suckers in 10 to 12 feet for pike. Shields Lake is producing sunfish and an occasional walleye on crawlers in 12 to 15 feet.

Walleyes continue to hit crankbaits in the Maiden Rock Flats area of Lake Pepin in 12 to 14 feet. Suckers are producing pike at the creek mouths on the Mississippi River. A few panfish are in the backwater areas.

Hit Willow Creek Reservoir for panfish in 5 to 8 feet or Foster Arend Pond with Power Bait for suspended trout over deep water. Panfish. Bass are biting on Chesterwoods Pond in shallow water. On Lake Zumbro, suckers are turning pike at the dam. Crappies are suspended in 20 to 23 feet.

Hit the deep pockets on the Mississippi River with cut suckers or stink baits for catfish. The back sloughs and snags on the river are holding crappies in 8 to 20 feet. The deep holes also will produce walleyes via willow cats. Generally, trout reports have been favorable, with some consistent fly fishing action for brown trout on Winnebago Creek.
