Remington expanding to Alabama facility

Huntsville, Ala. — New York gunmaker Remington will expand its operations to Alabama in a move that will create over 2,000 new jobs over the next 10 years, officials in the southern state announced Feb. 17.

The impact on Remington's Ilion, N.Y., plant is unclear, with some government officials denying its the beginning of the end of Remington in New York. A union official, however, said the news of the Alabama expansion "can't be good" for the New York facility.

Many see the Alabama announcement as one that was triggered by the January 2013 passage of the NY SAFE Act gun law, which has been widely criticized by sportsmen and Remington officials.
