Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – February 14th, 2014

Lake St. Clair

Fishing has been fair on Lake St. Clair. Perch anglers report a decent  bite in front of Gino’s Surf, at Metro Beach, and in Anchor Bay. Hunting pressure in Macomb and St. Clair counties has been light, with well over a foot of snow on the ground.

Pontiac Area

Fishing has been very good in Oakland County. Walleyes are hitting around the islands on White Lake, and a few crappies are being caught, too. Pike and crappies are hitting on Pontiac Lake. Perch, bluegills, and a few crappies also have been caught on Union Lake. Hunting pressure has been light, with up to 18 inches of snow on the ground.

Edwardsburg Area

Panfish action has been pretty good and a few pike have been iced in Cass and St. Joseph counties. Bluegills are hitting on Stone Lake, and a hot crappie bite has been reported by anglers fishing at night on Eagle Lake. Anglers report a good crappie bite on Birch Lake, too. Hunting pressure has been light, with upwards of 30 inches of snow on the ground.

South Haven

There was a lot of ice and a lot of snow in Allegan and Van Buren counties last week. Fishing has been fair on Swan Lake, where anglers report  decent pike and crappie bites. Pike and panfish are hitting on Paw Paw Lake, too. Coyote hunting has warmed up and action has been good. There was about 24 inches of snow on the ground last week, with more in the forecast.
