South Haven

Kalamazoo Area

There was a little ice on inland lakes, but there was also up to 9 inchers of snow, so ice-making has been slowed. Portage Lake had about 4 inches of ice in the marina, and bluegill fishing has been good. The channel on Gravel Lake also had good ice, and a few walleyes and panfish have been caught. Steelhead fishing has been very good in the Kalamazoo River. Plugs have produced the best results. Anglers report a pretty good panfish bite in the channels on Gun Lake, too. Muzzleloader deer season has been slow, and hunting pressure has been light. Coyote hunting has been good with lots of ‘yotes in the area.
