Upper Peninsula Fishing Report – December 6th, 2013
Drummond Island Area
The firearms deer season was slow on Drummond Island. Deer numbers are down. There was a couple of inches of snow on the ground last week and shore ice was forming in the bays. Fishing has come to a halt.

St. Ignace Area
The firearms deer season was average in Mackinac County where there was up to 3 inches of snow on the ground last week. The late archery and muzzleloader deer seasons should be decent. Fishing pressure has been light. There was no ice in the area yet. High winds are keeping Brevoort Lake churned up and open.

Deer numbers are down on the Garden Peninsula, and the firearms deer season was slow. It’s not expected top pick up much for the late archery and muzzleloader seasons. Fishing pressure has been extremely light on Lake Michigan’s Big Bay de Noc with high winds and low temperatures keeping anglers indoors. There was no ice as of last week. Snow and low temperatures were in the forecast.

Iron Mountain Area
The firearms deer season was “quiet” in Dickinson County, and deer numbers are down. There was a dusting of snow on the ground last week, and ice was forming on many of the inland lakes. Fishing has come to a halt on the Menominee River, but ice anglers could be out soon.

The firearms deer season was slow. Most of the bucks were small, and fawn numbers are light. There was about 4 inches of snow on the ground with more snow to the north. Muzzleloader and late archery seasons should be good as deer begin to migrate south. There was up to 3 inches of ice on some of the shallower lakes in the area.

Iron River Area
The firearms deer season was slow in Iron County. Hunters reported that deer weren’t moving much during the day. There was a couple of inches of ice on some of the small and shallow lakes, like Sunset and Hagerman. With more cold weather in the forecast, local anglers had high hopes the ice-fishing season was near. Skim ice was forming on Chicagon Lake and most of the larger lakes. There was a couple of inches of snow on the ground last week.
