Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – November 8th, 2013

Lake St. Clair

Perch fishing has been good on Lake St. Clair off the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and in the shipping channel. Walleye fishing remains decent in the Detroit and St. Clair rivers. Bucks are on the move, and waterfowl hunting has been good, too.

Irish Hills Area

Fishing pressure has been very light as sportsmen turn their attention to hunting. The archery deer season has been slow. Deer numbers are down in Jackson County. Waterfowl hunting has been good, especially goose hunting. Fall turkey hunting has been fair.

South Haven

Steelhead and brown trout are hitting in the Black River. High winds have kept anglers off of Lake Michigan. Bluegill action has slowed, but the crappie bite has been good on Swan and Scott lakes. Bucks are starting to chase does.

Kalamazoo Area

Steelhead fishing has been good in Kalamazoo River from the Allegan Dam to the M-89 bridge. Bass fishing remains pretty good on Gull, Portage, Swan, and Twin lakes. Bluegills are hitting on Sugarloaf, Pine, and Reynolds lakes. Fish have moved into the shallows and are being caught in 8 feet of water or less. Muskies are hitting on Wolf and Thornapple lakes. Archery deer season has been good. Fall turkey hunting has been slow.

Grand Rapids Area

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good on the Grand River and action should improve with recent cooler weather and rain. Crappies and a few bluegills are hitting on Reed’s Lake. Deer hunting action is heating up now that bucks are chasing does.
