Southern Lower Peninsula Fishing Report – October 25th, 2013

Lake St. Clair

Perch fishing has been good in Lake St. Clair off 8 Mile Road, in front of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, and at the dumping grounds. Lots of fish between 8 and 12 inches have been caught. Walleye fishing has been good in the Detroit River off Peach Island. Waterfowl hunting has been good, as has deer hunting, in St. Clair County.

Brighton Area

Bluegill action has been good on Chemung, Woodland, and Crooked lakes. The best bites have come to anglers fishing wax worms in the shallows. Archery deer season has been hampered by warm weather.

Luna Pier Area

Fishing has been slow, and fishing pressure light on Lake Erie. A few perch have been caught off the Fermi Nuclear Plant in 20 to 25 feet of water. Waterfowl hunting has been fair, but the flight birds have not arrived yet. Early archery hunting has been slow.

Allegan Area

Steelhead fishing has been good in the Kalamazoo River. There are a few old salmon in the river, too. Perch are hitting on Eagle Lake, and bluegills and sunfish are biting on most of the lakes in Allegan County, including Duck and Scott. Archery deer season has been slow, with warm weather keeping hunters indoors. A few cases of EHD have been reported.

Coldwater Area

Perch fishing has been good on Gilead and Cora lakes, with wigglers and minnows both producing good results. The walleye bite has been good on Madison Lake, with minnows producing the best action. Good bluegill action has come to anglers fishing on Honey Lake. Deer and turkey hunting has been a little slow.
